Carchi Andes Toad

South America

Rhaebo colomai

Its native habitat range has been altered and destroyed for logging and mining activities as well as agricultural developments.

The Carchi Andes Toad is a native amphibian of the western Andes Mountains. It can only be found in three locations: the Nariño Department in Colombia as well as two localities in the Carchi Province in Ecuador.

An adult male and female have measurements of 38mm and 59 mm, respectively. A single specimen was taken from a small creek within a forest environment about 1,180-1,500 above sea level. The scarcity in number is attributed to pollution and destruction of its habitat due to crop controlling and other agriculture-related activities.
