This particular bird species is almost totally wiped out due to constant nest disturbance and predation of introduced species to the island such as goats, rats, and cats.
The Masafuera Rayadito belongs to the Rayadito genus within the ovenbird family. Its preference for humid montane scrub makes it a rare bird species that exclusively inhabits Chile’s Juan Fernández Islands. Adults always do things in pairs and its whole life cycle – feeding, breeding, and nesting – happens within the rocky fern tree-dominated surroundings about 800 to 1300 metres above sea level. Its main diet is composed of arthropods.
