Perija Thistletail

South America

Asthenes perijana

Its high-altitude shrub land and grass land habitat are subjected to unregulated use for mineral exploitation, cattle ranching, narcotics cultivation, and human settlements.

The Perijá Thistletail from the Furnariidae family can only be found within the tropical high-altitude grasslands of the Perija Mountains in Colombia and Venezuela.

This rare South American bird species is predominantly brown-hued with grey streaks on its crown and underparts as well as a long, spike-tipped tail.
