White-collared Kite

South America

Leptodon forbesi

Massive clearing operations have been done within its surrounding coastal habitats which are considered as the main reason for its low population although little is known about its breeding and feeding behavior to begin with.

The White-Collared Kite is an endemic raptor species from Brazil. It has striking similarities with the Grey-Headed Kite. It can grow up to 50 cm in length and almost 600 grams in weight. Adults have a grey-hued head, white belly and hind neck, and black upper body. It has a distinct white-tipped broad tail.
